Hostel Downtown was in a super convenient location, just a block away from a major subway station. All attractions in the city were accessible by foot. I especially liked the free walking tour pick-up from the hostel: it's super handy to be guided to the Old Town Square by someone in a new city. There are lots of events throughout the week too, speared-headed by enthusiastic staff. Brent was the best! He will just come up to you in breakfast to chat and make sure your daily plans were all good. However, my big gripe with my stay was the lack of air conditioning in the rooms. Being in a mixed room with lots of guys meant a good whiff of BO on everything. If I come back in the summer months, I would definitely go for a female-only room instead...
I visited Amsterdam, Prague and Budapest in succession this August and the Hostel Downtown in Prague was hands down, without a doubt my favorite! Whether you're a low key individual who's just visiting Prague to see the sites or whether you're there to meet new people and DRINK SOME BEER (I was somewhere in between) (okay, I was mostly just there to drink some beer) this is definitely the Hostel you want to be staying at. The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful from the moment you walk through the doors and up the stairs to reception until the time you check out, and the tours they run (all on a very daily basis) are fun, engaging and enlightening - and there's always a pub crawl or beer tour schedule in the evenings for the partier's out there!
I'd also like to give a specific shout out to Brent Davey who works at the Hostel - listen, if you get the opportunity to introduce yourself to him do not waste it! Prague was unforgettable, and I owe the majority of that to Brent and his ability to lead and organize events and tours he lined up - and the suggestions he made for stuff to do during the few times he wasn't around. When it was time to leave Prague I was confident in the fact that I was leaving a very good friend behind, despite having only known him for three days.
I apologize for the amount of words in this review, but I hope it also speaks to the admiration and appreciation I have for Brent and everyone else at the Downtown Hostel. Of the three cities I listed above that I visited Prague is the only one I truly feel compelled to return to again, and I owe that feeling to Brent and the Downtown Hostel team!
Prague is easily the most beautiful city i've ever been to. When i got there i was injured, and the staff were incredibly accommodating. Not only did they provide me with anti-swelling first aid (where no other hostel i had been to prior, had offered such care), but they were also extremely helpful in pointing out the places to go and how to get there. I am especially grateful to both Adam and Violetta! If you happen to be so lucky to be greeted by a big bearded receptionist named Adam, he is the man to ask about the best beer, nightlife in general, restaurants etc... (he knows the city and is able to feel out what you are looking for and advise you best). He is also a gentleman; i witnessed him holding the door open for a woman with big bags. These are the small things that make the hostel inviting and hospitable. He is also an interesting smart, funny, all around good human being. If you begin your day with the hostel's breakfast and a radiant young woman with a warm smile asks how your feeling this day, you will soon realize that you are doing great, and are about to have a great day. Violetta not only made the most delicious little pancakes, but she was also really sweet and friendly, approachable, interesting and engaging; a beautiful smile in a beautiful city, is a great way to start the day! Prague is amazing! The food, beer, people, culture, architecture is perfectly complemented in a stay at the downtown hostel, a great location with great staff! enjoy!
Hostel Downtown was the first stop on my interrailing trip and I throughly enjoyed it! I stayed with one other friend in a shared 8 bed female dorm- homey and big! We were greeted warmly at reception and the staff always offered help. We took part in some hostel activities too -wine tasting and karaoke - you make lots of friends and have loads of fun! Only negative were room could have been a bit cleaner and no sockets or lights next to the beds. But I would definitely stay again :)
Great hostel with even better staff! Although not right downtown, it was writhing reasonable walking distance and the metro was so close otherwise. The place was clean and the bar in the basement was a nice addition for social atmosphere and mingling. Really enjoyed my stay and would do so again.
Cool hostel located maybe too close to the extra touristic old town to my taste. Atmosphere is more lets go out and drink a lot of beer, but I was still able to meet cool/interesting people (I think I'm getting old...). Mirek, Jessie and Sanko were fantastic tour guides... highly recommended. Staff is always available and nice, clean place nice dorm.
This hostel is the best I've stayed in and I don't know that it will ever change. Staff was AMAZING!!! They organize a multitude of events free of charge and are rather informative when it comes to venturing into Prague. The day room is great and definitely fosters the ability to meet new people. My only complaint would be the bathrooms, which seemed to always smell(I know there bathrooms but come on). Other than that, when I come back to Prague I'll be staying here
Liked: Location was ideal, staff were brilliant and spoke good English. Breakfast was very nice and cheap and the atmosphere was really good!
Disliked: A few more sockets in the room would have helped
Can't say enough positive things about this hostel! The staff will go out of their way to help you and make sure you're having fun/feel comfortable. The location is perfect, 5 min walk to the Charles bridge/old town square and the metro is even closer. They have so many free events organized too that there's always people to hang out with which is great as a solo traveler. Would definitely recommend and go back!
We had a great stay, the staff was always very friendly, the room was big and clean, the hostel is great and well located! They offer a lot of activities and there was a piano player for breakfast, that was a nice surprise!
